Dog Days to Round out Summer Season at New Concord Pool

The New Concord pool was over-run with four legged friends August 29.

To celebrate the last weekend before the season officially ends, New Concord Area Art and Recreation District (NCAARD) is hosting its annual ‘Dog Days.’ The pups got the chance to take a dip with their families for just $5.00 a dog and while it took some a while to warm up to the water, everyone eventually made a splash.

“They get to run around and socialize and play and get all wet,” said Program Director Judy Beetem. “It’s a fun time and it helps raise a little more money for the pool. ”

NCAARD hopes to bring another dog friendly area for pups to play in the future. They are still in the early stages of planning for a dog park in new concord. The $14,000 project will be funded through donations and fundraising but Beetem said there’s a lot of work to be done before the doggy dream becomes a reality.

“There’s all kinds of bells and whistles that you can involve in what we want to do there,” said Beetem. “We want to keep it lower cost and get it up and running as soon as we can.”

If you missed the chance to take your canine companion to the pool Saturday, the event continues through Sunday. It begins at noon and is open until 2 p.m. After the dogs take their last lap the pool will close for the season.
