ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Ohio’s 2025 Special Election is Tuesday, May 6th and the deadline to register is Monday.

Muskingum County Board of Elections Specialist Cheryl West explained the difference between a primary and special election.

“Registration for the May election closes April 7th, at 9 p.m. If anybody needs to update their address, if they have a name change or if they’re registering for the first time as a voter in Muskingum County, they would need to have that all done by April 7th, at 9 p.m. The office will be open until 9. And they can take care of all of that here at the office and we can get everything entered and get them ready to go to vote,” West said.

West noted that for both registering and voting; voters will be asked to provide a current and valid form identification. Early voting and distribution of absentee ballots for the May election will begin Tuesday, April 8th.

“The Special Election is occurring in Muskingum County. It is May the 6th and it is basically issues and levies only. That’s why it’s called a special election. There aren’t any candidates to vote for but it is a countywide election. Most people will have the renewal of a state issue and some of the precincts will have local levies. So that’s the content of the ballot. It is a smaller, a smaller election this time around,” West said.
