BLUE ROCK, OH – Hunters with disabilities have the opportunity to get outdoors this weekend.

The Y-Bridge Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation are hosting their 18th annual turkey hunt, beginning today and going until Sunday, at the Blue Rock State Forest.

Pat Burkhart, the President of the Y-Bridge Longbeards, says this year they have about 23 disabled hunters ready to get out and into the wilderness.

“We host this event for the hunters, this maybe, possibly, the only time that they would get to go out and hunt.” Burkhart said. “And we all enjoy turkey hunting.”

He says this year’s hunters range in ages and with their disabilities but they’re not letting that rain on their parade.

“We have approximately, at least 2 people that will guide with each hunter, like I said there will be 23 hunters, there’s probably 60 or so volunteers that go out in the field with them.” Burkhart said.
