Twelfth Annual Solid Gold Rib Fest Underway
The twelfth annual Solid Gold Rib Fest took place at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds Labor Day weekend.
The event is put on by the Minority Business Resource Network. Sixteen different delicious vendors were present to show off their best barbecuing. The CEO of the network, Ernest Bynum told us every year they hold a competition for the best ribs.
“They have the judges, three judges. They taste the rib and then they decide–and then they vote on the rib and the total up the total and whoever has the best total wins.” Explained Bynum, “First, second and third and then we have a thing called peoples choice.”
Bynum said people always have a good time and enjoy the social aspects of the event. Though it may be fun, Bynum explained a lot of hard work goes into making it all a possibility.
“It’s very difficult. The hardest part–we want it to be a free event to the public but it takes money to put it on so we rely on sponsors and we can always have more sponsors.” Said Bynum, “I like to say ‘it’s not too late to donate’!”
Rib Fest wraps up at midnight Saturday, September 5. Bynum said anywhere from five to six thousand people attend the weekend event.
