County Telephone Service Update

Muskingum County will be seeing changes in its telephone systems in the next few years.

The county commissioners review every paid phone bill in the county, and Muskingum County Emergency Management Director, Bo Keck, stopped by their office Monday to give an update on their service.

“They just wanted an update on the phone bill to make sure that we’re getting a good deal and the best deal that we can get at this point, and the fact that we have individual systems for every agency they wanted to make sure that was still cost effective, which it is,” Keck said.

New internet systems are just some of the changes coming. Keck said the upgrades could be implemented as early as 2017.

“There’s a lot of changes happening with telephone equipment and telephone lines going into the Voice Over IP and the Internet lines, our contract that we have now through AT&T is through 2017 and I recommend that we just stay where we’re at, and in 2017 start looking at what I’ll call the new world of telephone systems,” Keck said.

Keck said in the new world of telephone service, everything will be connected by the internet, which will result in more effective communication for the county.
