Prescription Drug Drop Off
A prescription drug drop off will be taking place Saturday September 26th.
The drop off will take place in the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department parking lot. If you have anything from prescription and over the counter medicines to needles and injectables you can properly dispose of them anonymously. Illegal substances are not accepted.
"Everything is totally anonymous. Some people take the label off before they get there. Some people just pour everything into a bag and bring to us and some people leave the labels on. We take the labels off. We put them in a bag that’s going to go to an incinerator so it’s incinerated. So nobody knows or will be able to find out what anybody is taking" explains Chief Executive Officer at Muskingum Behavioral Health.
This event is for anyone who wants to clean out their medicine cabinet to anyone who has a loved one in a nursing home or that has passed away and doesn’t know what to with the medications.
"We love doing these types of things because we have a lot of clients who are addicted to prescription pain medicines and some of them have graduated to heroin and the more we can get these out of circulation the less that are going to be available to be diverted" he later explains.
The drop off will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there is no registration. It’s a very quick process, you don’t even have to get out of the car. Just pull in from the Shinnick Street entrance and dispose of your products in the orange bins and continue through to exit.
