Y-City Historian Remembered for his Online Impact
The Y-City is mourning the loss of a local man who brought more than 10,000 people together.
Doug Kreis contributed countless hours of research and work on the ‘You Know You’re from Y-City’ Facebook page. He was a Vietnam Veteran, Historian, and Zanesville native. Niece of Kreis Shannon Keck said Kreis knew the importance of remembering the past and celebrating that history in the present.
“I feel that he did this because of his great knowledge of history, brilliant knowledge, and his pride, and his love for this community,” said Keck.
Kreis lost the battle to colon cancer Sunday. The Facebook page is flowing with kind words from all over. Kreis reached natives who rest in Florida, Texas and all over the United States. Keck said her uncle found family.
“He made people feel like they were family and right now I think that he would be humbled,” said Keck. “I think that he would be overwhelmed for all of the support that the community has shown, his ‘Zanesvillians’ as they like to be called, and we as a family just want to say thank you.”
The calling hours are until 7 p.m. Thursday. The services will take place tomorrow at noon at Bolin-Dierkes funeral home. The family is raising money to cover the cost of the funeral on Gofundme.com. They hope to accomplish all Kreis wanted in his last wishes.
