Green Wings Event a Success
Local kids got the chance to learn about fire-arm safety.
Ducks Unlimited hosted their green wings event at Briar Rabbit shooting range. Chairman of Zanesville’s chapter of Ducks Unlimited Ben Whitacre said the youth have fun getting the chance doing things they don’t normally do.
“We have trap shooting for shot-guns,” said Whitacre. “We have rifle shooting, b-b guns. We have archery, targets and shooting. We have a dog duck demonstration, so we have a variety of things for the kids to do on an outdoor basis. ”
Over 100 kids came to learn about hunting, and shooting, and the event has been in the works for about 6 months. Whitacre said it’s worth the work when he sees such a crowd of kids having fun outdoors.
“You see a lot of kids who have never held a gun out here,” said Whitacre. “They shoot the target, they’re ecstatic. So I think they really enjoy today’s event. A lot of them are coming up and thanking us so I think they enjoy the event. They enjoy the prize. They enjoy being outside. Obviously it’s a beautiful day so we couldn’t ask for more. ”
Each child participating left the day with a prize. They were awarded guns, balls, and other prizes that allow them to spend more time outside.
