McDonald’s Farm Opens for Season
This weekend marks the opening of McDonald’s Farm and greenhouse for the fall season.
This is a big year for the farm because they’re celebrating their 10 year anniversary. Some of the activites they offer to guests include a petting zoo, an enchanted forest with Bambi and Thumper, and a pumpkin patch along with a corn maze.
“We’re really excited that we are here and that we’ve had community support for this many years,” said Owner Susan McDonald. “Every year we’re growing and changing and adding different events and this year we have a corn maze, it’s in the shape of a tractor and a wagon full of pumpkins and we’re celebrating local food. So you can come hike through the corn maze and if you come out you can catch the next hay wagon ride, go through the pasture and see our cattle.”
Each year they strive to bring agriculture, education, and fun together. McDonald said it takes a a lot of hard work to keep up with all of the landscaping each year but the family is blessed to have such loyal employees that make it all possible.
“We love sharing our love of agriculture with the community,” said McDonald. “Children are one or two or more generations removed from the farm. For them to get to climb on a combine and pet a baby lamb and see the chickens and go through the corn maze and get fresh country air in their lungs is really satisfying.”
The farm is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. They are also open during the week by appointment for birthday parties, field trips, and youth group visits.
