Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics to be Announced

Friday marks the opening of the Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics featuring over 60 pieces from artists around the world.

The reception starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Zanesville museum of art and its a great opportunity to hear who the actual winner of the Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics is. The grand prize winner will receive $20,000 and titled one of the top ceramists here in the United States.

“The idea behind the Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics was to sort of highlight the artistic world here in Zanesville but also taking a page out of what Paducah, Kentucky has done which is really using art as an economic driver. It’s an opportunity to, bring into the community, folks that maybe are interested in opening galleries or studios or both, to take a look at the spaces and opportunities that are here in Zanesville” explains CEO of Muskingum County Community Foundation Brian Wagner.

All pieces are for sale starting on Saturday around noon so if you see something that really jumps out at you, you can purchase through Monday. Another window will open before the close of the exhibition in January as well. The proceeds will help support upcoming Zanesville prize competitions in the future.

“The long range goal is to have a very active and lively arts community here in Zanesville and throughout the region, focusing in on ceramics” said Wagner.

The exhibition will continue to be open and free of charge to the public through January 2nd for those who can’t make it to the opening ceremony this Friday.
