Contemporary Ceramics Winners Announced

Winners of the 2015 Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics were announced at the Zanesville Museum of Art yesterday.

Colby Parsons of Denton, Texas took ‘Best of Show’ and  a winnings of $20,000. Paul Donnelly of Kansas City Misouri took first place and $5,000.

Almost 370 artists from all over the world submitted work for the second annual show. More than 60 artists were chosed to have their work displayed at the museum until January.

Jurors included Curator of Ceramincs at the Arizona State University Art Museum Garth Johnson, Associate Professor and Chair of Ceramic Art at the University of Washington, and Director of the School of Art at the University of Montana Julia Galloway.

Partners in the exhibition are the Muskingum County Community Foundation, The Zanesville Museum of Art, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Artist Colony of Zanesville. A full list of prize winners is listed below.

 

Best of Show ($20,000)—Colby Parsons of Denton, Texas; “Peak #1”

First Place ($5,000)—Paul Donnelly of Kansas City, Missouri; “Tray”

Second Place ($3,000)—Amanda Salov of Corvallis, Oregon; “Bloom”

Third Place ($1,000)—Chris Dufala of Helena, Montana; “Selling Copy”

Honorable Mentions ($500 each) —Jessica Putnam-Phillips of Arlington, Vermont; “Ashes of Rose, Urn Pair” —

John Utgaard of Murray, Kentucky; “Reaction”
