ZAAP Honored as ‘ArtCoz’ Artist of the Month
The Artists Colony in Zanesville is honoring ZAAP (Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project) with the Artist of the Month title in October.
ZAAP started in the early 1990’s and works to give budding artists a place to show their art. Director John Taylor Lehman said it’s a destination for artists to get back to art.
“It does a lot of things for us,” said Lehman. “One is, I think people look at themselves, they’re seeing the artwork that’s out there and their seeing in themselves the potential to actually display their own work or go back and start working on something they may have done ten years ago or when they were younger. ”
ZAAP is looking forward to their First Friday Art Walk for the month. Photographer Janice Helmbrecht will be featured. Lehman said the Artist of the Month recognition that ZAAP was awarded could lead to more patrons than usual.
“I think we should expect a little bit more foot traffic at the gallery because we’re on the front page of the Artist Colony newsletter so that’s going to be a draw,” said Lehman.
The ZAAP Gallery is located at 625 Main St. in downtown Zanesville. This Friday’s art walk runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
