Farm City Day at fairgrounds

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – At the Muskingum County Fairgrounds on Saturday was the 22nd annual Farm City Day.
The free event ran from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. and gave those who live in the city a chance to experience what life on the farm is like. Farm Bureau Organization Director Kari Burkey said each year they pick a different theme.
“This year the theme is pigs so we are going with the motto ‘Something to Squeal About.’ We tried to bring as many agriculture and farm related activities to the fairgrounds and let the general public come and experience it,†said Burkey.
Included in the activities were a petting zoo, a 300-pound hog, interactive games, and food samples. Matt Bell is a sixth generation hog farmer and said a lot of people have no idea where the food they eat comes from.
“We just wanted to come and promote the pork industry,†said Bell. “We wanted to show what the hog industry is all about and kind of show people where their foods comes from.â€
Burkey said they are already looking forward to next year’s Farm City Day.
