Update: Park & Ride Fire Investigation

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol needs the community’s help in identifying a suspect or suspects who caused a multi-vehicle fire Tuesday.

The Post is investigating an incident that occurred at the "Park and Ride" lot at the intersection of State Route 93 and U.S. 22, around 1 p.m. The Patrol is requesting any information concerning a suspect, who entered the lot in a small dark-colored hatch back type vehicle and attempted to steal gasoline from a parked truck.

"We believe that the suspect was probably drilling a hole in the fuel tank of the vehicles and then putting a gas can underneath of it to catch fuels that come out," said Lieutenant, Matt Boyd. "They were probably using a drill, and either the gasoline ran out onto the drill and a spark ignited it, or ran onto a hot exhaust or something."

Boyd said the suspect fled the scene and appeared to come in contact with a possible witness or second suspect, a young white male operating a full size 4×4 truck who entered the lot as the suspect was exiting.

"We’re seeking assistance if anyone can see the photos or the video of those vehicles, and they can recognize those vehicles, those individuals, or if the individual in the truck wasn’t involved and can contact us as witness," Boyd said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol, at 740-453-0541 .
