UPDATE: Avondale Sewer Project
Work on the Avondale sewer system is currently underway.
Manager of the Muskingum County Sewer Department, Kenny Beisser, stopped by the Muskingum County Commissioners Thursday to give an update on the project. Beisser said the department is in the process of making some changes, including new upgrades in the system.
“The service laterals are the issue there, so we wanted to ask the commissioners to get permission to do some changes there on the service laterals,” Beisser said. “The service lateral is actually what takes the sewage from their house to our main line.”
The existing sewer system is failing due to the overflow of rain and groundwater backing up the system. The sewer department plans to upgrade the current 4-inch pipes to 8-inch pipes. Beisser said the larger pipes have better capacity and will reduce the chance of backup.
“We are just putting in new lines, doing away with septic tanks to do away with all of the groundwater,” Beisser said. “They will have a newer sewer system, and will actually be doing away with a lot of groundwater that’s getting in there, and saving us money in the long run.”
Work on the project began September 1, and Beisser said it could take up to nine months to complete.
