Tiberi Honored as ‘Steel Champion’
Congressman Pat Tiberi is being honored for his support of the United States steel industry.
He received the American Iron and Steel Institutes ‘Steel Champion’ award and he said he’ll continue to work to create ways to give the United States a competitive chance in the steel industry.
“We only have 20 countries in the world where we don’t have tariffs,” said Tiberi. ‘That means lower prices. There’s 200 countries that have tariffs. If we can reduce those tariffs we can make it here and ship it there. ”
The Congressman is being celebrated for his dedicated support of strong trade agreements as well. Tiberi said seeing his father lose a steel work job taught him an important lesson about how an international problem can affect families in small communities.
“It’s about the people and the people in Muskingum County have been so generous, so nice, so warm, and friendly. These are really well paying jobs here so as a son of a steel worker myself, these jobs are important to me,” said Tiberi.
The ceremony to honor Tiberi was held at AK Steel’s Zanesville Works, co-hosted by the American Iron and Steel Institute.
