Development Opportunities in Downtown Zanesville

The Zanesville Downtown Association is continuing its effort to revitalize the heart of the city.

More than 200 businesses now call downtown Zanesville home, and association manager, Dana Matz, said that number is only going to grow. The association recently hosted an “Upper Floors Tour” for business reps to discover potential development opportunities in the city’s rich historic district.

“The emphasis of the tour was to show people the upper floors of our downtown buildings, we have many downtown buildings that have underutilized upper floors and we wanted people off of the streets and into the buildings so they could see both residential and commercial spaces,” Matz said.

The upper floors of nine buildings were featured on the tour. Matz said the event was invitation only and more than 70 people, including city officials, realtors, and business developers, participated.

“One of the things we’re working on is increasing the density of downtown Zanesville, and by density, I’m talking about having more people working and living in downtown, and the natural way for us to grow that, is to use the buildings that we already have, and increase the occupancy in those upper floors,” Matz said.

Since the year 2000, Matz said the association has invested more than $40-million in the effort to revitalize downtown Zanesville.
