Hale Makes First Court Appearence

The Columbus man charged in connection with last week’s hostage situation on Devin Street made his first appearance in Zanesville Municipal Court.

Nicholas Hale, 33, went before Judge Bill Joseph. He is facing multiple charges including six counts of kidnapping, two counts of felonious assault and one count of having a weapon while under a disability.

The Court says Judge Joseph continued Hale’s bond at $1.1 million and set his preliminary hearing for November 5th at 10:00 a.m. Zanesville Police say last Thursday they were involved in a three hour stand off with Hale who was holding two hostages.

The two victims were released unharmed and Hale surrendered after tear gas was shot into the house where he was staying. Police are also connecting Hale to a drive-by shooting near Shinnick and Orchard Streets on Wednesday.
