Union Baptist Church Celebrating Special Anniversary
A local church is celebrating 179 years of worship in Zanesville this coming weekend.
Union Baptist Church first opened its doors back in 1836, and has been serving the community ever since. In honor of this significant milestone, the church is inviting the public to celebrate its anniversary this Sunday with a special service and dinner to follow.
“We want to have a reunion too, anybody who has ever came to the church, belonged to the church, sang in the choir, it’s more of homecoming to come in and just celebrate this with us,” said Senior Deacon, Kenneth Burke.
Burke said the church has overcome a lot over the years, and this weekend will be a time to remember its rich history. Sunday’s service begins at 11 a.m. and then the church will provide a chicken dinner to all who attend.
“There will be chicken, and mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans, we’re having a special cake made for the anniversary,” Burke said.
The church encourages all past and current members to take part in the festivities. Union Baptist Church is located on 8th Street in downtown Zanesville.
