Senior Center Honors Veterans

Thirteen men and women were honored with a pinning ceremony for serving their country in their earlier years.

Brookdale Senior Living in Zanesville held an honorary celebration for its senior citizens. We spoke to the center’s director Sarah Vincenzo and she tells us. Today they are serving the men and women who served and had active war duty.

“We are celebrating the veteran’s celebration. We have a lot of people that were protectors of our country that served. We wanted to recognize them and make this day special for them.” She went on to say, “We have 13 gentlemen and 3 wives accepting pinning for their husbands that passed,” said Vincenzo.

Vincenzo told us standing in front of the ceremony and watching the veterans accept their awards was empowering.

“To be able to stand up there and to see their facial expressions; it was very empowering. I was in a position that I saw raw emotion. You can see, all of a sudden before my eyes, they became that young, strong, vibrant male. Who was masculine and strong at one day. That they had a vision and a dream that they carried out to be protected. You could see how it is, why America is still the land of the free. You can see their passion shine through, and they became young right before my eyes, and we saw tears of joy,” said Vincenzo.

Following the ceremony, there was reception and live patriotic music.
