Weasel Boy to Host Breast Cancer Event

A favorite local brewery is going pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.

Weasel Boy Brewing Company is hosting its 7th annual fundraiser on Saturday to raise funds for breast cancer research. As part of the occasion, the brewery will release it’s first ever pink beer, La Belette Rose, or the pink weasel, which was handcrafted by co-owner Lori Wince and local brewer Jennifer Hermann.

“I brewed a French Saison, and tried to color it pink in honor of breast cancer awareness and research, the color comes from hibiscus flowers, which are often used in tea, and they’re very, very dark red, and so I used enough that I was able to get a little but of a pink hue in the beer, which is kind of fun,” Wince said.

The brewery, along with the Columbus Homebrewer’s club, SODZ, will host a home brew competition with 329 handmade beers from across the U.S. Following the competition, Weasel Boy will raffle off several items unique to the event and hold a silent auction to raise money.

“Saturday evening, we hold a silent auction, we also do a raffle, and we also sell merchandise with the logo for the campaign, which is ‘Beer for Boobs’ and that merchandise is provided to use through White Labs, which is a yeast company in California,” Wince said.

The event is open to the public. Wince said over the past seven years, the fundraiser has donated more than $10,000 for breast cancer research.
