Port Authority Welcomes New Executive Director

ZANESVILLE, OH – There’s a new leader stepping into a key role in Muskingum County.

Eric Reed has stepped in as the new Executive Director of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority. He takes over for Matt Abbott, who recently accepted a new position as President of Ohio Southeast Economic Development. Reed previously served as Muskingum County Administrator for about four years. He explained how his previous experience has helped him prepare for this new role.

“It gave me a great understanding for not only the current projects here at the Port Authority, but the individuals who make up city and county government and understanding who’s responsible for what and to keep the interworking’s of this Port Authority moving forward,” Reed said.

The Port Authority plays a major role in attracting businesses, creating jobs, and supporting local projects. Reed says his focus will be on continuing that momentum and building strong partnerships.

“My goal is to continue the work that’s been laid here for the National Road Business Park, and to continue working with the county and city on the need for housing in the county and also expand our workforce. The overarching goal is to always retain and attract business in the Muskingum County area,” Reed said.

Reed’s first official day will be this coming Monday, April 21st.
