Tri-Valley, Sheridan Split Spring Doubleheader…Again
THORNVILLE, OH
The two schools are certainly no strangers to one another, regardless of the sports season. Tri-Valley and Sheridan have been big school division rivals for quite some time, and the baseball and softball teams are certainly no strangers to the rivalry.
After a 5-2 road victory on Monday evening, Sheridan followed it up with an 8-0 shutout on the softball diamond back home in Thornville.
For the second straight day, senior pitcher Cora Hall was on the mound, and she didn’t miss a beat from first pitch. She carried a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning before Alivia Reffitt finally cracked the scoring column to lead off the final frame. Despite a bases loaded jam to end it, Hall went the distance, allowing two hits and striking out seven batters.
While Hall also had a great day at the plate, going three for four with a home run, Hall’s arm got plenty of a workout on the mound to start the week.
“I’m feeling alright. We have a great trainer, shout out trainer Dan” said Hall after the game. “He definitely gets me back together, taping me up and everything. I told him I feel like I’m a football player, so I feel precious.”
When asked about facing a familiar foe for the second time in as many days, Hall understood the importance of being back home against a big school rival.
“Knowing that we have support of the littles and parents, just having that atmosphere behind us is really comforting. Plus, getting to see them (Tri-Valley) a couple of times, it’s definitely confidence-boosting.”
Meanwhile on the baseball diamond, it was Tri-Valley doing the double over Sheridan, this time a 4-0 win after a 10-0 victory the first time around.
Senior right-hander Gavin Harrold had his way on the mound with the Generals’ hitters, striking out eight while allowing just four hits through five shutout innings.
As is expected from the tall, lanky Harrold, he handled the bat as well, accounting for one of the four Tri-Valley runs in the victory.
“Yesterday, we came to the game fired up, we knew that they’re a tough team” said Harrold after the win.
“I feel like I did pretty well. Five innings, I did my part, my team did theirs. Regular season: we got them. Really just riding it out now.”
Sheridan softball now sits at 13-4 on the season, 12-0 in the MVL to lead the big school division field.
Tri-Valley baseball is also unbeaten in the league at 7-0, part of a 10-2 season record for the defending big school division champions.
