ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local healthcare provider held an open house to celebrate the opening of their onsite pharmacy.

Allwell Behavioral Health Services CEO James McDonald shared how their partnership with Genoa Healthcare fills a prescription of convenience for their patients.

“Allwell has been in our community for 65 years and we are in 6 counties and we have primarily served the behavioral health. Now we are treating the whole person. So we have a primary care office here, we have an urgent care office we’re building in Cambridge and one of the critical services is medication. About 40 percent of the patients we see are on medication. We’ll prescribe that medication and they’ll have to go to another pharmacy or another location, sometimes to another county to get their medicine. This is a one stop shop,” McDonald said.

The open house dedicated the facility’s expansion in honor of longtime Psychiatrist Dr. Darell Smith, who was instrumental in the development of the local behavioral healthcare programs we see here today.

“Genoa Healthcare is a… we are a full service pharmacy but we like to partner primarily with community based mental health agencies, like Allwell,” Genoa Healthcare Director of Pharmacy Operations Zach Hedrick said. “We like to partner with community based mental agencies just because it’s an underserved population. We do know there’s a slight stigma around behavioral healthcare, so we want people to have a safe space, where there is no stigma. It’s a stigma free environment. And then we do a lot to support these individuals by having you know, free hygiene bags or free packaging/mailing just any way possible to keep them on their medications.”

The pharmacy is open to the public and is located in the Allwell building, on the corner of Bell Street and Bethesda Drive.
