Have Your Deer Meat Processed for Free

Now that hunting season is officially underway, you may find yourself with extra deer meat on your hands.

But the question is, where do you take it? For first-time deer gun hunters out there unsure of what to do with their meat, Phillips Meats and Processing in Zanesville is your one stop shop. Some veteran hunters take it upon themselves to process their own meat, but others take it to a meat shop where’s it’s cut into steaks, sausage, and even snack sticks. Owner, Dale Phillips, said jalapeno cheese bologna is their most popular seller this season.

“This has been a really good year, in years past it’s been a little slower, but I believe Muskingum County is back, we are seeing good quality deer, and lots of them,” Phillips said.

The store has been in business for 16 years, and Phillips said deer gun week is their busiest time of the year in terms of sales. In celebration of the season, Phillips said the store is having a different contest each day for the hunters who come into the shop. If you win, you get your meat processed for free.

“One of the fun things we do is we have a contest every year, yesterday was the youngest hunter, and today was the oldest hunter, then we have biggest buck, smallest buck, biggest doe, smallest doe,” Phillips said.

On Sunday, the store will award free processing to the hunter with the most unique deer. For more information, visit phillipsmeats.com. The store is located at 2790 Ridge Road in Zanesville.
