UPDATE: Cameron Appointed County Commissioner

A new County Commissioner was named to fill the seat of former Commissioner Todd Sands.

Party Chairman Pat Hennessey said the Muskingum County Republican Committee chose Cindy Cameron to assume the position of County Commissioner for the remaining year of Sands’ term, following a vote by the committee last night.

Cameron was appointed over three others vying for the position. She said she’s ready to serve Muskingum County but she’ll miss those she works with now.

“Our County Commissioners have done a great job,” said Cameron. “I’m anxious to work with them. I’m excited to start. It’s a little bittersweet having to my job here, my Tri-Valley School Board and Mid-East but I’m excited and those places are in great hands.”

Cameron will also run for the seat in November of next year and she said she has the perspective necessary to help the community.

“I think this is a great county like everybody does,” said Cameron. “I said that in my speech last night. Everybody wants to serve our county and I just thought that I had a distinctive background and some unique qualities that no other candidate can deliver.”

Sands resigned as County Commissioner in October for medical reasons. Cameron said it will likely be about a week before she takes her seat in the office.
