Canned Food Needed to Feed the Hungry this Christmas

The Salvation Army hopes to feed 900 families for Christmas this year, but they can’t do it without donations.

While food like macaroni and fruit are in good supply, with canned food at a serious low, they may not have enough to even give just one can of corn to each family. Program Director Dustin Redmond said they need the community’s help to feed families in need this season.

“One can of food will help two or three people,” said Redmond. “Just one can of food or one boxed dinner, so when we put this 1,800 food boxes we know that there is going to be 900 families that are going to be able to have a Christmas dinner. ”

The food only distribution day is Dec. 15 and the Salvation Army will start packing boxes on Friday with the help of local students. On Dec. 17 the food distribution will pair with the Angel Tree distribution. Redmond said he’s grateful for the work of the community throughout the year.

“I would just like to say thank you to the community for the support that they give to the Salvation Army, not just during Christmas but throughout the year to help support the mission of the Salvation Army. ”

Redmond would also like to thank the auxiliary women of the Salvation Army for their work in making the Christmas boxes and Angel Tree program a success.
