Pat DeWine visits Noon Rotary

A familiar name made a stop at Noon Rotary Club on his campaign journey Tuesday.

First District Appeals Court Judge Pat DeWine, son of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, was honored as the guest speaker at the meeting as he moves through the state campaigning for Ohio Supreme Court Judge. Dewine said he enjoys serving the First District Court of Appeals but he’s ready to take the next step in his career.

“I love being a judge,” said DeWine. “I love being on the Court of Appeals but I think they way that I can have the most impact is really on the Ohio Supreme Court. My traditional philosophy is that I believe that judges shouldn’t be activists. We should follow the constitution, apply the law that’s written and I think the place you can really implement that philosophy the most is at the Ohio Supreme Court.”

The Judge isn’t the first DeWine to take a role in the state government and he said his father’s career path certainly influenced his interest in the legal system.

“I remember going and watching him try cases as a Prosecutor when I was 10 or 12 years old and I think that’s kind of the first time I ever thought about being a judge,” said DeWine.

DeWine has visited 87 counties in Ohio to date and after Rotary he headed to Monroe County to complete a tour through the buckeye state.
