Muskingum Behavioral Health is Hosting a Family and Friends Support Group
ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â This time of year can be tough for those suffering from substance abuse. But even tougher for the family and friends of the user.
Muskingum Behavioral Health is hosting a Family and Friends Support Group. On December 17th. This support group is free and open to the public. Muskingum Behavioral Health’s Recovery Coach, Dana Pritchett said a lot of people lose sight of families need to heal from addiction just like the addicts.
“The important thing to understand about an addict is this, we stop growing emotionally and spiritually” said Pritchett. “So loved one are no longer looked at as loved ones. They are looked at as hostages. Because that’s what you are. Anything that can feed the disease, i’m going to utilize it. And families are the closet thing they have some times.”
This group will be run by a recovery coach. Recovery coaches know first hand what to look for with dealing with addicts.
“We’re going to teach them different ways of dealing with enabling, codependency, give them some direct education about what recovery is suppose to look like” said Pritchett. “Because an addict can tell a family member anything. But if you have first hand information on what recovery is suppose to look like. I can’t tell you anything. ”
