Local Businesses Supporting Literacy

A mind is a terrible thing to waste, so in the spirit of giving one local company donated books to pay it forward.

Dollar General donated nearly 30,000 books to United Way early Friday morning. The United Way then distributed the books to the Muskingum county and surrounding communities to go towards local schools, and organizations that has a focus on literacy.

“I have about 28 agencies within a 4 to 5 county radius that are coming to pick up books. Most of those locations are in Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties. We even had some organizations to come get books clear from Coshocton. So it’s been a really fun day so far, trying to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible. With those 28 agencies we moved up approximately 24,000 books today,” Becky Clawson, Community Impact Director for United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties.

Putnam Trucking accepted the delivery for United Way Friday at 9 a.m.  The delivery included a Semi Trailer and an additional 1/2 semi-trailer.

The Dollar General also presented United Way with a $5,000 dollar check to support their campaign.
