ZANESVILLE, OH- A local dance studio in Zanesville is getting ready to hit the stage this Saturday with a show full of energy, emotion and fun.

Genesis Dance Academy dancers of all ages are rehearsing for their big performance at Secrest Auditorium. The show is called Lights Camera Action. Preschool dancers will take the stage at 11 a.m., and the older kids and adults will perform at 3 p.m. The show features a mix of styles including tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop and large group numbers.

“I feel like this dance studio is a family, we all work together, my mom has grandchildren of kids she started teaching 30 years ago, so I feel like it’s very family atmosphere, and just a lot of fun,” said former academy dancer and current volunteer Megan Lenox.

Genesis Dance Academy has been part of the community for decades. Right now, there are about 150 dancers enrolled which is half of what they had before the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone interested in joining can stop by the Genesis Children Center or look out for their big registration event in August.

“Come dance, it’s amazing, it’s not a stressful dance studio, I feel like our kids love to dance and have a good time, and it’s okay that they do sports and other activities,” said Lenox.

Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. To stay updated, visit their Facebook page, Genesis Dance Academy.
