Zanesville City Schools Gears Up for Summer Lunch Program
ZANESVILLE, OH – A local school is gearing up for the start of their Summer Lunch Program.
Zanesville City Schools is participating once again in the Summer Food Service Program.
Beginning on June 2nd and going until August 8th, all students under the age of 18 will be able to stop at one of the many drop off locations and pick up breakfast and lunch.
Kevin Williams, the food services manager with the Zanesville City School District, said the only time when food will not be served is on Juneteenth, June 19th and the 4th of July Holiday.
“This year we’re going to do things a little bit differently as everybody that picks up a lunch at every park, they will also get a breakfast that they can either enjoy that day or for the next day or for the weekend,” Williams said. “So that’s something new and exciting for the children of our community.”
Williams said there is a need for food in our community and this is just one small way to help out one another.
He said this Summer Lunch Program has been going on for many years and they want to see it continue, as long as there is a need.
“There’s a need in our town for kids who may have working parents, who may just be in need of food so we want to provide this,” Williams said. “And we just want to continue this and grow and feed as many children in our community as we can.”
Williams said another new change to the Lunch Program, they’re also going to be handing out multi-day packs of breakfast and lunch to students at Rolling Plains Church.
Williams said this is for children who may be too far away from a food drop off location or if their school doesn’t offer one.
