Construction Begins on New Center for Seniors
The Center for Seniors is officially under construction.
Muskingum County Maintenance Workers have begun demolition in the new building on Shinnick and 4th St. and Muskingum County Commissioner Jim Porter said he’s happy to see the project underway.
“We’ve actually had some of our county employees down there doing some of the demo already,” said Porter. “It’s opened up a lot of walls and areas. It’s a big change from previously. ”
Bidding has begun in order for the commissioners to choose a construction team to begin work when demolition is complete and the hope is to provide area seniors with a new facility by August of 2016.
“We’ve been committed to the seniors of this county forever,” said Porter. “They’ve paid their dues. It’s time we furnish them a facility. Again I look back to last fall when the levy was defeated and we decided the opportunity came along we decided we could do this relatively cheap but it’s downtown centrally located. It’s going to be a good facility. ”
The completed center plans to open spaces for various events and activities, a state of the art dining area and kitchen, and an elevator for the multistory building.
