If you are curious about how well our county is doing in terms of dollars and cents.
Muskingum County Commissioner, Jim Porter described 2015 in one word, successful.
“Looking back to 2015 here in Muskingum County. We feel that we’ve had a good year. Our unemployment rates is anywhere from 5-6% depending on which quarter you look at. Our average family income has rose 6% according to the 2014 quarter. Which is something we can all be proud of. Here at the commissioner’s office we’re working on finalizing our budget for 2016. Good news is we are projecting anywhere from $7- 7.5 million dollar carry over. Which is really great news for us. That shows you where our economy is heading,” Â said Jim Porter.
Commissioner Porter said they are looking to continue the success of 2015 into the new year.
“Next year  we’re excited about the new center for senior building. We’ve been planning for that for quiet some time. We’re not going to voters for any money. We’re not going to have to borrow any money. We have been setting some aside for that project. It will be nice to own our own building. We’re excited about that. We are in the process right now of applying for roughly $1,000,000 grant for one of our job sites out of airport industrial park which will make it a job ready site. It’s one of the few sites that we have remaining in our industrial park which is a good thing,” said Porter.
Porters said he has many goals for 2016, but the main goal is job creation for Muskingum County.
