Muskingum County Center for Seniors Introduces Jam Band

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Center for Seniors has a jamming new group.

Every Tuesday from 3 to 6PM, anyone and everyone is welcome to become a member of the Jam Band.

Jim Schapher, the host of the Jam Band, says it all started out when a few other people at the Center asked if he could give them some guitar lessons.

He said while they still offer lessons when someone new joins the crew, now it’s evolved into a nice jam session with old friends.

“That turned into a few more people wanting to learn how to play guitar and eventually became a jam,” Schapher said. “But it just kind of became this and people just enjoy it. No restrictions, just us, we play and make music.”

Schapher said music is something that can connect us all without even realizing it.

He also said regardless of your musical ability, you’re always welcome in the circle.

“I was in a jam circle once, it was outside in a park and all of a sudden, there were 6 or 7 of us in the circle and were standing side by side, somebody tapped me on the shoulder so I moved over. Figured somebody wants to be in the circle,” Schapher said. “It was a lady, didn’t sing, didn’t have an instrument, she just wanted to be part of it, so yea we did it. Those who are a part of this just love making music and it’s an opportunity for that, that’s what makes it so good.”
