Retirement Party for Beloved Dean

ZANESVILLE, OH – The countdown to retirement is on for one local college Dean.

Dr. Hannah Nissen is stepping down from her role as Dean of Ohio University Zanesville at the end of June.

Monday, friends, faculty, former coworkers and students came together to commemorate her 25 years of service here in the community.

Nissen said it was a bittersweet time as she chatted with colleagues, but she’s looking towards the future and what it holds.

“I think I’m going to take some classes, not a degree program, but just taking some classes and I’m an avid gardener, not always really good, but I love it and so now I finally have the time to do something so I’m excited about that. My husband and I will travel, we have family all over the Country so I think we will plan on doing that and then probably next year we’ll do some international traveling too, that’s kind of in the works,” Nissen said. “Really just catching up with some people I haven’t been able to see for a long time, family and friends, that’s important to me and I want to spend time with them, as much as I possibly can.”

Nissen left some parting words for the students at OUZ. For the students she says to recognize the expert talent within the faculty and listen to their advice, it won’t steer you wrong.

She also gave some advice and words of encouragement for the person that will take her spot.

“Realize that you have a great team here who is going to do good things, continue to do good things for this community and for this campus,” Nissen said. “We have a lot to offer here and I think the team here recognizes that and they will allow you to do the best you possibly can be, you’ve got a team you can count on here.”

Nissen’s final day as Dean of OUZ is June 30th.
