The Cub Scouts 45th Annual Pinewood Derby

Local Cub Scouts put the pedal to the metal at the 2016 Pinewood Derby.
The 45th Annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby took place Sunday at the IBEW Hall of State Route 60 North. There were 12 participants between the ages of 6 and 10 years old. Each cub built their cars out of small pieces of pinewood and was able to decorated them however they liked with the help from a family member. When the race began the cars were released from the top of a long track and the first one to reach the bottom was the winner.
“They give you a solid block on wood, I think when we get it’s 2.8 ounces so we have a lot to add to it. We trim it down and make it look like a race car or a tank. You go and buy the weights or the paint or whatever you need and put the wheels on it and see how fast you can make it,” said Assistant Leader, Madison Mather.
We talked to Cub Scout Kadeen Hanes who created a blue race-car and named it the Blue Death-Machine. He told us he loved seeing his car on the tracks.
“It was absolutely amazing. Putting it on there made me feel like I was apart of something,” said Hanes.
At the end of the race each cub scout received a trophy for all of their hard work.
