Few Reporting Influenza Locally

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â Although flu season is here, the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department said there haven’t been many reported cases so far.
Medical Director Dr. Vicki Whitacre said in November 3 people were admitted in the hospital for the flu, in December only 2, and only 1 for this month.
“I don’t think we know exactly why. We’re hoping it’s because we have a pretty good immunization rate and a very good match with the vaccine. But who knows maybe it will be terrible next year. Let’s hope not. This year is no where near what it was last year,” said Dr. Whitacre.
Doctor Whitacre said it’s important to keep an eye on your symptoms when you are feeling under the weather.
“If you’re developing fever, trouble breathing, or the mucus that  is harder to deal with, you may want to see your physician. Also if a cold lasts longer than 7-10 days and you are getting other symptoms like ear pain or headache you might want to see your physician also,” said Dr. Whitacre.
Doctor Whitacre said if you have not gotten vaccinated for the flu, there is still time to do so.
