OUZ is Hosting A Summer Writing Camp

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It’s important to be a good writer.

Friday Dr.Lisa Haven from Ohio University Zanesville stopped by Jennifer Stotts’s high school English class to inform students about a writing camp.

This is the first time Ohio University Zanesville is offering a camp like this. It’s for students in grades 7 to 9 who live in Muskingum County. There will be three main areas: fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. We spoke to freshman Clarise Hague who attended a writing camp last summer. Hague said workshops like these help her writing tremendously.

“My focus on writing was narrow. I didn’t have a lot material to write about. And after going there I learned to write about different things than what I was used to. I think this will be a very good thing to bring to Zaneville and other smaller towns. Because it’s more convenient for people who don’t have the money to go to big camp that cost $4,000. And that don’t want to travel from their homes,” said Hague.

The objective of this camp is to provide a supportive and comfortable atmosphere for writing and provide multiple venues for writing that promote imagination and creative discovery.

“I know that there is a big push with some scholarship money available for these kinds of writes workshops. And this one is right here in Zanesville which we’ve never had before,” said Stotts.

“Students from all schools around the Muskingum valley area come together in a creative workshop environment. I think that’s very good for students,” said Haven.
