Muskingum County Library System Lowers Late Fees

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The late fees for DVDs have been lowered at Zanesville’s local library.

The John McIntire Library has lowered the late fees for DVDs from $1 to $0.50 effective February 1st.

“The idea of over due fees is never to be punitive. But to recover materials that we purchased with tax payer money. We just felt that this made it more feasiable for people to enjoy that collection. Without feeling like it was risk they did not want to take. We understand life happens things up come. A $1 a day for 5 DVDs can add up rather quickly. And that not out goal,” said Assistant Director Blair Tom.

Tom said their goal is to make the DVD collection accessible for everyone to enjoy.

“We really believe that this is one thing we can do that will make a difference. A small difference for customer satisfaction. It’s certainly a very small impact on library budget,” said Tom.

Tom said there still is a 5 DVD checkout limit. DVDs can be checked out for 5 days at a time.
