Health Related Issues When Shoveling Snow
Tuesday morning’s snowfall has quite a lot of people out shoveling snow.
We visited the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department to talk to Dr. Vicki Whitacre about some of the health related issues that can be caused from the heavy snow lifting.
“Shoveling snow right now with this last snowfall we had is really going to be hard on people because it’s wet and very heavy. So you need to take little shovel loads at a time rather than a full scoop,” said Whitacre.
Whitacre also mentioned that lifting heavy snow might also cause issues with your back rather than just pulling muscles.
Often times during snow events like this, the melting of snow later refreezes when temperatures drop below freezing and causes walking surfaces to be very icy and slippery. People should be extra careful so they dont fall and injure themselves.
