Park District Reports Development

The Muskingum Valley Park District reported development in the local area.

Representatives met with the County Commissioners in Muskingum County to discuss the many projects in the works.

President of the Park District Brian Newton said while they’re in early stages, he’s hopeful they’ll bring an increase in recreation to the area. One in particular will create a trail connecting three local schools.

"Several of the activities include the ‘Joe’s Run Trail’," said Newton. "That’ll be developed. It’s a long term process. Between basically Zanesville High School and Ohio University Zanesville. There will be several phases to that project. It’ll run along Joe’s Run. It’ll eventually cross Adam’s Lane, in Joe’s Run itself and provide a multi-use trail for people to enjoy."

Newton said parks and trails make communities better places to live.

"Parks and recreation are central to having people active, having people want to be engaged in their community and it attracts people when you have a good park system," said Newton.

The Park District encourages the public to come forward and share ideas. The board meets monthly.
