House Fire Downtown Zanesville

Fire crews responded to a house fire at 151 south 7th St. in downtown Zanesville.

The Zanesville Fire Department was called out at 12:15 Thursday afternoon. Fire Chief, Eric Waltemire said the two-story home was fully involved in flames when crews had arrived and it took them nearly an hour to get it contained. Community ambulance, and Falls Township Fire-Department were also on scene.

"Upon arrival we had heavy smoke and fire showing from both the first and second floor. Guys initiated an attack and search because, we wasn’t sure if anybody was home or not. Got it all clear on the search and attacking the fire there," said Chief Waltemire.

Chief Waltemire said the Red Cross was there to assist the family with any resources. The home owner, Daniel Raver, said he was at work at the time the fire occurred and nobody was hurt. However, they did lose a cat, a dog and the kids pet rabbit.

"The first thing that came to my mind is, I just made the last house payment last month so it’s an unfortunate timing but, my first concern was making sure everybody was okay," said Raver.

Chief Waltemire said the fire didn’t affect any of the surrounding houses and the cause is still under investigation.
