Colony Square Mall Celebrates a Major Milestone

The place that many of us go to for retail therapy is celebrating a major milestone.

The Colony Square mall opened its doors 35 years ago this week. It was March 18th 1981 at 10 a-m when the mall hosted it’s Grand Opening celebration with a ribbon cutting and showcase to it’s 40 new stores. Colony Square mall Manager, Kevin Pinson said since it’s opening, the amount of stores in the mall has nearly doubled.

"It’s unusual for a town this size to have it’s own mall, so I think when the developers came up with this plan they were very forward thinking it’s a great asset to have here in the community," said Pinson.

To celebrate the mall’s anniversary, Friday at noon they will be serving birthday cake in the food court along with a cash give-away on their Facebook page. Each event is all a part of the mall’s way of saying thank you to the community.

"We’re giving away 35 $100 gift cards. Starting the 18th and for 35 days we are giving away $100 gifts cards a day if you can answer a trivia question from the 80’s," said Pinson.

Pinson said during the first week in April, the mall will make an announcement on a new $17,000 sq. foot store located near Dunham Sport’s that will be opening it’s doors in June.
