Infant Found Dead in Cambridge Apartment
The Cambridge Police Department is investigating the death of a newborn baby at Meadowpark Apartments.
Just after noon Friday police were notified that a 22-year-old female had delivered a child sometime within the past 48 hours at her apartment. The caller reported the child was possibly deceased and still in the apartment.
Chief Randy LePage said when officers arrived at the apartment there was no answer at the door. The officers forced their way into the apartment to check on the well- being of the child. The apartment was searched and the child was found. LePage said It was obvious the child had been deceased for some time. United Ambulance was on scene with officers and initially verified the child was deceased.
Chief LePage notified detectives of the incident and a search warrant was obtained. A crime scene agent from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was contacted to process the scene for evidence.
Guernsey County Coroner Dr. Sandy Schubert was notified of the death and she responded to the scene. After her examination of the victim and the scene, she ordered the child be transported to the Licking County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
LePage says no arrests have yet been made and Cambridge Police Detectives continue to investigate.
