The 2016 Muskingum County Women of Achievement Award
One local woman is being recognized for the Muskingum County Women of Achievement Award.
Alexandria Dillhoff is receiving the 2016 Ethel Granger Shultz Young Adult Award. The award stemmed for a group project that she completed in her senior year in college helping an over-sea’s community that didn’t have the funds to hire a professional engineer team.
"They came to us asking us to design a wood burning stove. A quite unique wood burning stove. One that would boil water and boil rice and cook very efficiently but, didn’t produce any heat. Or adding any extra heat to the room around it," said Alexandria Dillhoff, Recipient, 2016 Women of Achievement.
Dillhoff stayed in Nicaragua with her group for two weeks and was able to create two wood-burning stoves. That can service several different families. Dillhoff said in return her group taught and left a copy of the directions in Spanish with a certified brick-layer to continue building the ovens once they left. Now the community of Zanesville celebrates her for her hard work.
"If there is anything that I had to hear from other women that I looked up to in my life that I hope they understand is that it’s just, keep doing what you love. I loved engineering and I wanted to see the world and by combining those two passions I want able to find something that benefited an entire community," said Dillhoff.
Dillhoff will be honored at a banquet at Ohio University Zanesville/Zane State College campus center on April 13.
