ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local university is looking to collaborate with the community and bring education opportunities to students.

Ohio University Zanesville addressed Noon Rotarians Tuesday and discussed extending global learning to regional campus students.

“They can experience the world and understand the world as an interconnected organism in the 21st century,” Ohio University Zanesville Campus Dean Dr. Jenifer Cushman.

“An example of how we are trying to bring excellent educational opportunity, we’re hosting a writing camp this June for 7th-9th graders. And that’s a partnership with the library, the art museum, and the Muskingum County Community Foundation,” said Ohio University Zanesville Director of External Relations Jarod Anderson.

Cushman said their mission statement is to extend opportunities for students, increase educational learning, and increase the economic and cultural development of Muskingum County.

“We are initiating a pilot program across the regional campuses called COIL, collaborative online international learning through modern technology and through web conferencing tools. We’re bringing international partners into the classroom. So that students can interact with students from other countries. And relate what they are learning in their classrooms to the world in ways they might not be able to otherwise,” said Cushman.
