Big Brothers Big Sisters Looking For Mentors
Mollie Crooks, Executive Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters said they recently started a page on Facebook called “Waiting Wednesday” to help publicize the children in the program looking for a mentor.
“We looked at the list of children that have been waiting for a mentor. These are such great kids and they really aren’t asking for a whole lot. They are just looking for someone to spend one on one time with,” said Crooks.
Crooks said two of the common misconceptions of being a mentor are that you have to spend a lot of time with your child and that you have to be young.
Crooks said that all Big Brothers Big Sisters asks out of their mentors is to spend some time with their child a few times a month, but encourages them to spend as much time as they want to spend with them.
“Our average age on our community based volunteers are in their mid forties. We even have some volunteers in their seventies and some that are in their twenties. So there is a broad variety of volunteers that come forward and are awesome mentors,” said Crooks.
If you are interested in being a mentor or have any other questions please give Big Brothers Big Sisters a call at 740-453-7300.
