Commissioners seek Funding for State Route 555 Water Project
The Huntington District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers met with Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss potential funding for a water project Thursday.
The State Route 555 Water Improvement Project has been on the county’s radar for years. 75,000 feet of pipe will be installed which will create access to water for residents in Cannelville. The commissioners are seeking funding for the four million dollar project and the Army Corps of Engineers is hoping to provide up to $925,000 in aid.
"There was a ranking through all projects in the state of Ohio where there was the greatest need for whether it’s environmental protection, waste water, or water improvement projects," said Captain Eric McKinney. "This project came up on the list. It was next in line so that’s how it qualified for it."
The money from the engineers is federal which means the project will need to meet more qualifications and plans for partnership are still preliminary.
"As far as reviewing design plans, anything like that, we have not reviewed any of that yet," said McKinney. "This is the initial meeting and then from here we’ll work our way forward. "
WHIZ-TV will continue to follow this water improvement project and bring you updates on what it means for local residents and roadways.
