Retirement Tea Party held for Ann Murphy

Community members celebrate a woman who dedicated nearly three decades of service to the community.

The Muskingum Valley Boy Scouts Council is celebrating the retirement of Ann Murphy who has been the Office Manager and the Accounting Specialist for 28 1/2 years. Scout Executive, Ed Mulholland said Murphy has been the steady guiding hand behind the scene that has kept the Boy Scout operation running smoothly.

“She raised her two sons through the Boy Scouts over these years and I kind of think she kind of raised the council at the same time. She’s responsible for probably between 10 to 15,000 men that have gone through the program in those 30 years so pretty impressive,” said Mulholland.

Murphy started her involvement with the Boy Scouts in 1987 where she was in the pack with her two sons. We asked her what she will miss the most about working for the boy scouts.

“The people. I mean I ‘m kind of behind the scenes when I was there but we have amazing wonderful office staff and their fun to work with. They are really a joy to be around. So, I will miss that,” said Murphy.

Murphy said although she is retiring today she still plans to help when needed and that she is only a phone call away.
